San Francisco/Rome, – ITA Airways launched its nonstop service between San Francisco and Rome. The inaugural flight, AZ 641 connecting the two cities departed on July 1 at 3:15 p.m. from San Francisco International airport and was operated with an Airbus A350, ITA Airways’ flagship aircraft.
To celebrate the launch of the new intercontinental route between North America and Italy, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the departure gate in San Francisco, in the presence of Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer ITA Airways and CEO Volare, Pierfrancesco Carino, Vice President International Sales ITA Airways, Massimo Allegri, ITA Airways Regional Manager Americas, Kevin Bumen, Chief Financial and Commercial Officer San Francisco International Airport, Sergio Strozzi, Consul General of Italy in San Francisco..

The new San Francisco International Airport – Rome Fiumicino flight will operate from 1 July to 30 July 2023 with 3 weekly frequencies departing every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday at 3:15 p.m. and landing in Rome Fiumicino at 12:05 p.m. local time the day after. Return flights from Rome Fiumicino will be departing at 9:35 a.m. to land in San Francisco International Airport at 1:15 p.m., local time.
In the peak of the summer season, from 2 August to 30 September, the route will be operated with 5 weekly roundtrip flights every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while in October operations will be on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
San Francisco is a destination registering a significant amount of leisure traffic and an increasing weight in terms of business travel and high yield leisure.
In opening this new North American route, ITA Airways met the high demand and expectation of its customers, who immediately responded positively to the launch of a direct flight between San Francisco and Rome, determining a promising performance as of July, first month of operations.

For ITA Airways, 2023 is the year of the big investments in the intercontinental market with the launch of new direct flights from Rome Fiumicino not only to San Francisco, but also to Washington (opened on June 2nd ), and Rio de Janeiro that will be launched in October. With direct flights connecting Rome Fiumicino to New York, Boston, Washington Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco and Milan Malpensa to New York, ITA Airways aims to become the preferred carrier between North America and Italy and, via Rome, to the rest of Europe and the Mediterranean. In addition, with the new destinations opened this summer from Rome Fiumicino to Washington and San Francisco, the Company will operate 122 weekly roundtrip flights between North America and Italy in the height of the summer season.
